Native to Moorea in the Society Islands of French Polynesia.  Researchers at NASA found it was one of the 10 most air-purifying plants. 

Pothos enjoy a light spot, but preferably not in direct sunlight or a draught. The paler the leaves, the more light the plant needs. Bear in mind that deep shade may mean that your pothos loses its variegation.

Some plant food once a month will maintain Pothos's growth. They are fast-growing plants that can add up to a foot to their length during the growing period between December and May. When cared for well, they can reach 20-40 feet tall and three to six feet wide, living an average of five to 10 years.

Once a vine starts to look bare, or if you want to make a million more pothos, clean a pair of sharp scissors and trim just above an existing leaf and stem joint. 

Native to India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and the Philippines.

Preferably propagate in Spring or Summer.  Clip about 4 inches from the vine and place either in water or a new pot of soil to root.  I've found these to be so easy to propagate in water first, then pot when the roots are established.

Glove up!  Find the baby plant, and cut the root that connects it to the mother plant.  Lay it by a sunny window for a day, then pot in sandy soil (cactus soil works). Water, and place in bright indirect light!

Given the right growing conditions, spiky flowers will appear on the end of stalks in shades of yellow, red, or orange. The gel is great for acne, bug bites, and burns!  

Native to Central America and the Caribbean

Cut a strand, about 5 inches long and with about 5 leaves, from the main plant. 

Remove the bottom 2-3 leaves from each stem cutting to expose the nodes along the stem - leaving 2-3 leaves on each cutting.  Place in water and in bright, indirect light. 

Within a couple of weeks, you should see roots! Once the roots have reached about 1 inch in length, the cuttings can be moved back to soil.

Just joking!  This plant is beautiful, and one of my favorites.  Mine was propagated and given to me by my friend Maddy!

Its native origin is south-east Asia, Australia and the Pacific islands.

The Dragon Tail will grow well in a hanging basket with long trailing stems, however, if you want to see its BIG dragon tail leaves – you will have to give it some support to grow up and attach to. In its natural environment, it clings to the trunks and branches of larger rainforest trees and accesses nutrients and moisture using aerial roots.

The Dragon Tail plant generally only flowers after the formation of the very large (we're talking 3.28 foot), perforated older leaves.  So it generally won't happen with a houseplant.

The Monstera deliciosa is native to the tropical forests of southern Mexico, south to Panama. It has been introduced to many tropical areas and has become a mildly invasive species in some places.

Monsteras can produce fruit!  If you can mimic its natural environment and provide fertilizer, when the plant is a few years old it 

 start producing fruit.  Not every Monstera does though, so if yours does - you're lucky!!

 and are theorized to maximize sun fleck capture on the forest floor by increasing the spread of the leaf while decreasing the mass of leaf cells to support it.


Using a clean pruning shear (or super sharp, clean scissors), cut off a stem an inch or two below a node and place it in water.  It should root within a few weeks and after the roots are several inches long you can pot it in soil!

Native to Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in southern China.

Locate an offshoot that is at least a couple of inches, clear the dirt around its roots, and (with clean scissors) cut the offshoot away with about an inch of roots.  Place in moist soil and put in indirect sun.  Keep soil moist until roots establish!

The fiddle-leaf fig is a species of flowering plant in the mulberry and fig family Moraceae. It is native to western Africa, from Cameroon west to Sierra Leone, where it grows in lowland tropical rainforest. 

It can produce flowers!  However, it rarely flowers outside of its native area. It can grow up to 50 feet tall outdoors!

African violets can be propagated from leaf cuttings or from offsets. Adult plants occasionally produce small plantlets or shoots from the side. Remove these and pot up independently. Removing them also encourages better blooms on the parent plant.

My mom gave me mine, and every year I nearly kill it by the end of Summer then revive it over the Winter.

This plant is so prolific you can just look at it, and it produces 80 more plants.  To propagate, just snip off one of the baby shoots and put it in water or directly in the soil!

For years my Spider Plants and offshoots were all green, but one eventually shot off some variegated babies!   My original was a gift from my mom.

The Fairy Castle Cactus is native to North, South, and Central America. It is a very slow-growing plant that will eventually reach 6 feet tall.

With a sterile knife or scissors, cut off a branch and allow it to callous over (about one day).  Plant in sandy soil, water, and place in a very bright location!

If your cactus comes with a flower, it is likely a fake bloom.  These plants rarely bloom out of their natural habitat.  When they do bloom, it's at night!

You can propagate this one in a couple of different ways:

1. Take the whole plant out of the pot, brush away the soil, and separate it into sections using a sharp knife. Replant the sections into clean pots with cactus potting soil.  Water and find all the sections homes!

2. Using clean scissors, cut a long healthy leaf off your plant.  Place the leaf in water, submerging the cut end, and put it in a partially sunny spot.  Once the roots are several inches long, pot it using cactus soil.  

Native to southern China, Southeast Asia, and Indonesia
